Granite is an extremely durable natural stone that transcends many styles, whether it be transitional, rustic, or contemporary.

Geologically speaking, Granite is an igneous rock, which means it was formed as it cooled deep within the Earth’s surface. Granite, in a commercial sense, often includes stones that are not true granites by geological definition. They are commercially sold as granite due to similar performance properties. Granites are some of the hardest dimensional stones, offering high levels of resistance to abrasion and scratching. The primary minerals in Granite are resistant to virtually all chemicals found in a residential setting.

Peters Marble & Granite carries natural stone slabs in four popular finishes. Don’t see the material you like in the correct finish? Peters Marble & Granite can have any finish here applied to any available material. In addition, we can provide bush-hammered, flamed, and several other finishes upon request.  Contact us with any questions.

Marble was once limestone that achieved metamorphosis from intense pressure and high temperatures within the Earth. This altered its make-up and introduced other minerals that produce the valuable colors and veining found in Marble today.

Marble is ideal for bathrooms, foyers, floors, wall cladding, and hearths. Marble has also become a very popular choice for countertops.

Due to its mineralogical makeup, marble is vulnerable to either abrasion or chemical attack. Exposure to acidic solutions such as lemon juice, tomatoes, red wine, and vinegar should be avoided. Acidic solutions can permanently etch the surface of marble. Although impregnating sealers do an excellent job of preventing stains, they do little to reduce vulnerability to acid attack.  If you are installing marble in a high traffic area such as a kitchen, in addition to a high-grade sealer, we also recommend a solution to protect against etching. These are applied by trained stone restoration professionals. These types of solutions help to stop the etching and staining caused by acidic foods and liquids.

This layered stone made of Calcite produces exquisite formations with a bold, expansive color palate. These formations that onyx creates are often in “cloud-like” shapes or bold striations, depending on if the onyx slab material has been Cross-Cut or Vein-Cut. The decorative appeal of Onyx is truly unsurpassed by any other material. The backlighting ability that is achieved through the semi-translucency that all Onyx possesses, creates a statement for any commercial or residential project.

Onyx is ideal for interior applications only, including commercial and residential bar applications, bathroom vanities, wall cladding, and decorative elements. Onyx is a softer, more porous stone, and therefore is vulnerable to both chemical and abrasion exposure, similar to Marble.

LIMESTONE

Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium. Limestone slabs range from light to dark and color. The texture of Limestone varies from fine grain to smooth, fossil-bearing types that showcase a piece of history. Limestone, like Travertine, features beautiful Earth tones that provide great design flexibility. Due to its luxurious textures and soft feel, it is most often used for flooring. Limestone also makes a beautiful fireplace hearth or bathroom vanity. Due to its Calcium-based make-up, Limestone has similar use and care characteristics to Marble.

TRAVERTINE

Travertine is a type of limestone. Similar to limestone, travertine features soft earth tones, providing great design flexibility. Being of calcium-based makeup, travertines are similar to limestone and will have use and care characteristics similar to marble. Travertine is formed in pools by the slow precipitation of hot, mineral-rich spring water. As the stone formed, trapped carbon dioxide bubbles create the characteristic voids found within travertine. Valued for its striking textural character, travertine is available in a wide range of colors from light hues to deeper earth tones.  Because of Travetine’s unique structure, it retains less heat than other stones. Often used for flooring, wall cladding, driveways, pool decks, countertops, and other applications, travertine remains a popular choice among homeowners and trade professionals.

Porcelain slab is a high fired ceramic surface much like porcelain tile. Porcelain uses ink jet technology capable of mimicking natural stone, wood, and virtually any look you can dream up. The benefit of Porcelain is that it has a scratch resistant surface and is impervious to chemicals. With score of 7 on the Mohs Hardness Scale it’s one the most durable surfaces on the market making it useful for the outdoors.
